Featured Teacher: Nancy Friedman

We are proud to announce our latest Featured Teacher, Nancy Friedman. Nancy is one of our senior Voice and Piano teachers serving parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties and she is an invaluable member of our staff. Here is a little bit about Nancy in her own words:

I was born in Detroit, Michigan and went to Mumford High school. I began studying piano when I was 6 and for many summers I attended Interlochen National Music Camp, near Traverse City, Michigan. I competed and performed various concertos with the orchestra there. When my family moved to Los Angeles I finished my education at UC Berkeley and UCLA majoring in Music and History. I eventually got a Lifetime Teaching Credential and worked in the Los Angeles school districts for several years.
Being so close to the entertainment industry, I "ran away" to Hollywood leaving education and began to pursue a career in film and television. I made many commercials and more than two dozen films over the next 15 years. I had a wonderful time working closely with producers, directors and actors as a Production Script Supervisor and an Assistant Director. They sent me abroad several times so I had the chance to live in Spain for six months and France for three months along with working visits to England,  Amsterdam and Italy.
When I retired from the entertainment profession, I decided to pursue songwriting and composing for musical theatre. While doing doing that over the last six years, I met Marlene and she introduced me to teaching music to children and mentoring talented music students.
I’ve done a wide variety of creative endeavors and I believe that the best is yet to come.

Nancy, your creative flair and extensive experience with music and education have been a blessing for our students. Thank you Nancy for your tireless efforts. Keep up the great work.
